WINTER GARDEN, Fla. -- The University of Rhode Island sits in a tie atop the team leaderboard after the completion of day one at the 30th annual Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship. The three-day, 54-hole event will take place from May 2-4, at the Orange County National Golf Course in Winter Garden, Fla. (par 72 - 6,882 yards).

The Rams combined to shoot an opening round 278, good for 10-under par, along with #5 ranked Charlotte. Dayton (279) sits in third place, just one stroke behind the leaders, while Xavier (292) is in fourth place after day one.

Bill McDonald and Brad Valois helped pace URI in the opening day of the A-10 Championship, each firing off rounds of 69 (-3), to sit in a tie for third overall. Jarryd Dillas and Mark Stevens each shot a two-under 70, good for a tie for sixth place, while Pat Pelletier is in a tie for 15th after shooting a par round of 72. Dayton's Rob Chappell fired off an eight-under 64 to lead the individual competition.

"Today was easily our best round of the season," said head coach Tom Drennan. "I'm thrilled we were able to play as well as we did and hope we can keep the momentum going."

URI tees off tomorrow morning (8 a.m.) in the second round of the A-10 Championship.
